it was just one of those things

I was listening to an interesting podcast while I was working on this painting. It was an interview with Bobbie Burgers, and I just love, love her work. Big, fun, spontaneous flowers. Oh, to be so free! If you have time to listen you can find it here.

rabble-rouser

I love a good rabble-rouser, like this guy. Never hesitant to say what he's thinking. Expressive with wild abandon. A quality I can only aspire to...
This 6"x6" original oil painting is available, unframed for $85 here.

And on another note: Vasari Video Blue Extra Pale is a favorite color of mine. I used it in the background of rabble-rouser over transparent colors. It has a fabulous buttery texture and the color is just magical...

Just loving my new resources for bird reference, my Facebook friend Marvin Stauffer. Thanks, Marvin, for your endless inspiration! When life is too busy to go find your own inspiration, it's great to have friends who are willing to share. Inspiration is everywhere.

just breathe

The pace of life is just so crazy that I am so very grateful for any minute when I can slow down and paint. Painting is something that can't be rushed. Not ever. It only works when you slow down and just breathe...

lofty goals

This is from a post from a great blog by Seth Godin.
None of the above
In a world where nuance, uncertainty and shades of grey are ever more common, becoming comfortable with ambiguity is one of the most valuable skills you can acquire.
If you view your job as taking multiple choice tests, you will never be producing as much value as you are capable of.
Make the agenda, invent the possible paths, tell us where we're going next. Life is an essay, not a Scantron machine.
#2 pencils are overrated.
I want to make an agenda and invent the possible paths. I want to make lofty goals. Although I disagree that #2 pencils are overrated, I think they are one of the best things ever invented!

With some precious free time last night I had the time to paint these gerbera daisies. I painted it before, but this time I went a bit larger. I actually like painting the same thing over and over. There is always something new to learn, and like handwriting, it's never the same twice. There's lots going on in my world right now so I'm sending love and positive thoughts to some friends in need of some extra love right now... hit pause

Just hit pause. I wish that at least once every day. Hit pause to slow time down, at least for a moment. Hit pause, just to have a minute to rest. Not how it works, I know. At least while I paint I lose time, or at least, for a moment, I forget what time it is...until the alarm goes and it's time to be off and running!
