confidence

Truth be told, something that I feel I am lacking in is confidence. It's crucial to creating a happy life. It's been a lifelong challenge for me and I do think I've come a long way. But I have a long way to go. Creating artwork and showing it to the world takes confidence. Lots. Not sure where I misplaced it along the way, but hoping to find my way back to it, one painting at a time.

sweet blue

This sweet guy is another in my series of birds with big personalities. My previous one, hello, is already headed to a new home. How fun is that! I do love the idea of my paintings sprinkled all around in loving homes where they make people smile. I know that sound super sappy, but it's true :)

hello

Part of the fun of painting birds is seeing them come to life. It's almost like I start the painting with a vision of what it will become, but then it takes on a life of it's own. Before I know it, there is a bird, with it's own unique personality, looking right at me. :)
And here is a glimpse of who might be looking up saying hello, back.

sprinkle donut

I always love our family tradition of getting donuts on Sunday morning. A great treat, plus it's wonderful painting inspiration. The only downside it the calories, but oh, well! Some things in life are worth the calories, right?
This original 6"x6" oil painting of a sprinkle donut by Lancaster artist Kim Smith is sold.
If you like this sprinkle donut painting, you might also like another sweet treat, this colorful candy necklace painting.

framing art

Seeing it all start to come together makes me smile!
A great big thank you to Jenny at State-of-the-Art Framing for doing such a fabulous job framing my paintings. The perfect frame just brings it all together.
Here are a few more of my pieces waiting to be delivered to Seasons Olive Oil & Taproom for my art show, opening on First Friday, October 7th...

free as a bird

With my show quickly approaching (October 7th at Season Olive Oil & Vinegar Taproom in downtown Lancaster) my studio is a flurry of activity. This past week I had several of my paintings professionally scanned and color corrected by the very talented Mike Inzinna of Blacksmith Printing. Sure, I could add this to the list of things I do myself, but there's just never enough time in the day!

I need high quality electronic files to print my bird calendar that is in the works (which I am thinking of calling it "free as a bird"), and to hopefully create some prints and cards, too. All this in the midst of framing pieces for the show, working on marketing materials, pricing, and last minute details because October will be here in the blink of an eye!

Photo is of my original painting above a printed output on paper. They look great, right?

I need your help!

I'm knee deep process of creating a fun calendar featuring my bird paintings. But as I'm waiting for the paint to dry, I keep making more. So I need to narrow it down to only twelve lucky ones to be included. I would love to know which ones you like best... you can get a better look at my website, if you'd like.
