I'm knee deep process of creating a fun calendar featuring my bird paintings. But as I'm waiting for the paint to dry, I keep making more. So I need to narrow it down to only twelve lucky ones to be included. I would love to know which ones you like best... you can get a better look at my website, if you'd like.

holding on to summer

Preppy pink and green are a happy color combination. Always a favorite of mine. I put focus on using cool colors to make things recede and warm colors to bring elements forward. I'm still not sure if that is the key, I read different opinions on this, but it does seem to work. Dimension is a really fascinating piece of the puzzle as I learn more and more about painting.

amazing sky

This was the beautiful sky at the farm where I buy my flowers each year. Warm and peaceful. It was a really busy weekend and I got up and ran with my friend this morning so not much time to paint. I finished this 12"x12" painting on Saturday morning before we went away for the weekend. Three day weekends are heavenly! This painting is SOLD.

This is what I've been busy painting these past few mornings. I must say I am quite happy with it. I feel torn into a million directions, as always, but feeling less patient about it. I always hope, one day, life will be easier and I will have time to do things that I want to do, when I feel like it. Not just whenever I have a free minute. Am I setting my expectations too high? Maybe that time will never come. Where time will float gently by and I won't always feel like I need to be in control of it. Guess I can't control that either. lancaster blocks

Today I dropped off some of my new "Lancaster Blocks" at Building Character in downtown Lancaster at the Eclectic Collective Booth. I was inspired to create some small paintings of signs from around Lancaster, up close and personal. My first two were Stans Records and Here To Timbuktu. First I created the paintings and then created some fun wooden blocks (thanks for the wood blocks, Landon!), in the theme of children's blocks with letters that you could spell out words. Maybe HOME, LANCASTER, LOVE, the possibilities are endless. Go check them out at First Friday tomorrow night, if you get a chance. Let me know what you think!

Queeny

This was just oh, so fun! Her name is Queen Plum, Queeny for short. My friend raises these Kunekune Pigs at Slackwater Farms in Millersville, PA. The name Kunekune means “fat and round.” How beautiful is she? If you were thinking you wanted a pig, this is the place to go. I will undoubtably be painting more of these pigs very soon! This original oil painting is 24"x24", $1,100.

Two of my paintings have been accepted into the Philadelphia Sketch Club Art of the Flower Show. I am excited to be chosen to be part of this show which opens on Sunday, March 2.

So much for the 30 day challenge for me! I am hopelessly behind now! I had a very fun "girls" getaway weekend with my buddies and didn't paint since last Wednesday. I did paint this morning, and it felt so great to get back into it. So great. Anyway, this is my painting from last Wednesday…This is 6"x6", $85 unframed.

I love "the sisters." My wonderful sisters. They have been amazing to me…in the role of sister, parent, friend…I can't thank you enough! This painting is from a photo of them from long ago, before I was even born.

I skipped a day in my challenge because I was caught up in a really tight painting, a tight one for me, anyway. I prefer to paint in a style that is more free and loose, but somehow, every now and then, I end up doing a few tighter pieces. Maybe I need to just accept this as part of the learning process for me. Here I was trying to play around with keeping my painting bright and fresh…I tried using transparent glazes…something new to learn :) If you want to learn more about glazing, you can read more about it here. This is a painting of old buttons from my mother and grandmother. I miss the days when you would save your buttons after a piece of clothing wore out...so you would have them when you needed to replace a button later...such simple efficiency.
