trusting intuition

Trusting intuition. So very important, but why is so difficult to do? I think, above all else, trusting my intuition is one of the most important things that my painting practice teaches me. When I feel discouraged, and get fearful of a slump coming on, I slow down and listen. I change things up and stick with it instead of getting lost in the discouraging negative feelings. Then this happened...an effortless painting that felt like it almost painted itself. Note to self: let the discouraging feelings inspire something new and wonderful. Lesson learned. Or at least for today. It's a lesson I need to learn over an over again. Do you ever feel this way?

plum loco

Blues are such a magical color. I don't like to say I have a favorite colors. It's like children, you should never, ever have a favorite, but love each one equally for their unique qualities. Shhh...don't tell, but I do have a favorite. Blue. I have tubes and tubes of blue paint, even though they say you can mix every color with a few basics. But I just can't help myself when I go shopping for paint. I always throw in a new blue. You can never have enough blues, right?

This original 8"x8" oil painting on ⅛" gesso panel is available for purchase for $140 here.

A favorite blue of mine is Old Holland Blue Grey. It's an absolutely gorgeous color.

What's your favorite color?

solitude

Mornings are my time of solitude. And I love when something beautiful like this happens while I'm in the midst of running my daughter to the bus stop, packing her lunch, catching up on laundry...you get the picture. Even with a million things going on I still feel the magic of solitude, even though I am never, ever alone, really. But when I am painting somehow I feel peaceful solitude. A wonderful morning all the way around. Now it's time to get this day started!
This original 6"x6" painting is available, unframed, for $85 in my Etsy store here.
Wishing you a wonderful day!

happy

Happy 2016. It was a long break from work, and painting. I had big hopes of free days to paint, but that didn't happen, as life got in the way, as it so often does. I always need to keep in mind that everything is just as it's meant to be. Right this very minute. So have you made any new years resolutions?  I always think that it would be such a fun challenge to write down my resolutions and see where it takes me. But I am afraid. I'm afraid to have more goals because one of my most challenging, never-ending goals is to slow down and be in the moment. That's what painting does for me. So my goal is to be in the moment this year. As often as I can. Happy 2016!
