slowing down

I've been reading Thrive, by Adrianna Huffington. Loving it. Last night I was reading about slowing down, which I really, really, really need to do. I'm hoping she can tell me how to do it. She says "Learning the wisdom of slowing down, of truly living, is itself a journey." So that means I don't need to figure it out by tomorrow. But just like working out and eating right and getting enough sleep, you just wake up each day and try again. I can do that. monday blues

I started off the week with the Monday blues, but not really. I'm never "blue" when I am painting (well, maybe my hands are, sometimes!). concord grapes

It’s concord grape season! I remember my grandmother having these on an arbor in her backyard every summer. I’ve always loved them. I don’t grow them in my backyard (my how times have changed!) but I did pick them up at a local farm market. Lucky me! Thinking of my grandmother, Mamie, today!

artichoke

A friend mentioned an artichoke I painted a long, long time ago. I found my tiny painting, only 4" square. It inspired me to try my hand at painting a larger version. This one is 20" square. I'm really enjoying creating larger paintings. They are both challenging and fun. It really challenges my patience, which is a something I continually work on, and my confidence which is always a work in progress for me! still alive

I feel like I've been missing-in-action lately. I am still alive and well. Painting and creating whenever I find a free minute! Never sure if anyone is even reading my posts, but ever hopeful :) So first up is my painting from this morning. I was feeling a bit frustrated and actually wiped this one off three times and finally ended up liking what happened. I kept feeling like my shadow just wasn't looking like a shadow, but now I'm thinking it does. Funny how you get lost in a painting and it really is key to just stop and take a step back. I feel a bit stuck. I'm not sure if my work is improving. Maybe I don't feel my usual inspiration to paint. Not that I'm not happy while I'm painting. I just feel stuck. Life is sticky sometimes…It usually helps to think about the ebb and flow of things being natural and not something to constantly fight. wild abandon

I finished up a commissioned painting this morning with a little bit of time left over. So I painted a still life that I had set up in my studio. And I painted with wild abandon. It's a little along the vein of Lisa Daria and Angela Moulton. I really admire their work. I'm sure they don't really paint with wild abandon. They just make it look that way, and they make it look so easy. It's definitely not. Fun? Absolutely! This 6"x6" unframed painting is available for $75. Have a great day!

focus

My muse each morning, when I get up to paint, is usually completely random. Today I was thinking about focus. On many levels. Focus, as in where to direct it in a painting. Focus, as in where I want to put my own focus, for today, and going forward. Focus, as in what pieces of life are worth the energy. Hope your day is directed by a focus on creativity, giving and fun.
