indigo blue
There is just about nothing more fun than a new tube of oil paint, and something I've never tried before...even better! I am painting my way through the rainbow and having a blast. As I transition from purples to blues I am planning to dig a little deeper and share more of what I am learning along the way. This new color, Indigo Hue, is vibrant and fun, but I need to get to know it a little more before I can say it's a friend or foe...but this blueberry painting was a fun place to start finding out...

trusting intuition
Trusting intuition. So very important, but why is so difficult to do? I think, above all else, trusting my intuition is one of the most important things that my painting practice teaches me. When I feel discouraged, and get fearful of a slump coming on, I slow down and listen. I change things up and stick with it instead of getting lost in the discouraging negative feelings. Then this happened...an effortless painting that felt like it almost painted itself. Note to self: let the discouraging feelings inspire something new and wonderful. Lesson learned. Or at least for today. It's a lesson I need to learn over an over again. Do you ever feel this way?

a perfect match
Some things are just magical together, like peanut butter & jelly, like chocolate and wine, like complementary colors. They have such great energy as a team. I took this photo at Lancaster Central Market (which is worth a visit of you are ever in the area). Of course they caught my eye and I couldn't help but shoot some painting reference while making my purchase. Some people walk through market looking for something to eat, I walk through market looking for something to paint :)

plum loco
Blues are such a magical color. I don't like to say I have a favorite colors. It's like children, you should never, ever have a favorite, but love each one equally for their unique qualities. Shhh...don't tell, but I do have a favorite. Blue. I have tubes and tubes of blue paint, even though they say you can mix every color with a few basics. But I just can't help myself when I go shopping for paint. I always throw in a new blue. You can never have enough blues, right?

A favorite blue of mine is Old Holland Blue Grey. It's an absolutely gorgeous color.

great pear
Last night I had some time to paint. I worked on painting a rose and I just was so not happy with it. Not a bit. So after about an hour I just wiped the entire thing. Then decided I needed to change direction completely. Glad I did, this morning was so much better. With painting it's such a concrete example of perseverance, same with all of life, but you notice it more dramatically with art. One step forward, two steps back. It's all okay, it's a part of the process. So important not to get discouraged and keep forging ahead. I am reassured by this "great pear."

pear bowl
This is what I've been busy painting these past few mornings. I must say I am quite happy with it. I feel torn into a million directions, as always, but feeling less patient about it. I always hope, one day, life will be easier and I will have time to do things that I want to do, when I feel like it. Not just whenever I have a free minute. Am I setting my expectations too high? Maybe that time will never come. Where time will float gently by and I won't always feel like I need to be in control of it. Guess I can't control that either. Only thing I can control is the fun I have during my time painting every morning. Being appreciative of that. Wishing you a wonderful day.
This painting is 8"x8", and sold unframed for $120.

last of gary's apples
Yesterday started out like fall and ended like winter with a bit of snow…I feel like fall has gone by in the blink of an eye. This is one of the last of our apples from our neighbor Gary. He knows that I like him to keep the leaves on the apples when he picks them. This 6"x6" painting is available for $75 here. Have a great weekend!

strawberries
I was away on vacation all last week. I had the very best intension of painting, at least a little bit. It just didn't happen. But I did get to watch a video that I really, really enjoyed about painting. It's by Sherrie McGraw on the Bright Light Fine Art website. The video is called Shape and Form. She demonstrated her amazing technique painting a pear. So last night when I had a little time to myself I tried it on this painting of strawberries. I am happy with its looseness and dimension. I plan to paint this as a commission really large…how fun will that be! Hope you enjoy it! This painting is 6"x6" and available for purchase, $65, unframed.

fresh
I skipped a day in my challenge because I was caught up in a really tight painting, a tight one for me, anyway. I prefer to paint in a style that is more free and loose, but somehow, every now and then, I end up doing a few tighter pieces. Maybe I need to just accept this as part of the learning process for me. Here I was trying to play around with keeping my painting bright and fresh…I tried using transparent glazes…something new to learn :) If you want to learn more about glazing, you can read more about it here. This painting is 6"x8", $75, unframed.

satsuma tangerine
So when I was in Philly last weekend, I had the opportunity to go to Whole Foods. What a wonderful grocery store. Good thing we don't have one near me or my fridge would always be stocked. With food and with painting reference! Anyway, I picked up a cute little box of Satsuma Tangerines and they were as delicious as they were beautiful. This painting is available, 6" x 6", $65 unframed.
