indigo blue

There is just about nothing more fun than a new tube of oil paint, and something I've never tried before...even better! I am painting my way through the rainbow and having a blast. As I transition from purples to blues I am planning to dig a little deeper and share more of what I am learning along the way. This new color, Indigo Hue, is vibrant and fun, but I need to get to know it a little more before I can say it's a friend or foe...but this blueberry painting was a fun place to start finding out...
This original 8"x8" oil painting on ⅛" gesso panel is available, unframed, for $150 here.

French chair

This morning I painted this French chair from Dreama Tolle Perry's online class. My goal is to paint more loosely and more colorfully. She has such a magical style. Someday I would like to spend more time learning from other artists. Right now I just don't have the luxury of time to walk away from life to do something so selfish. But as I read everywhere, you can't wait forever to start doing what you love. That's why, a few years ago, I started painting every morning. And if I can fit it into my schedule, anyone can! I paint between 5:30 and 7 each morning (I do miss a day, now and then). Today this is what happened. What a wonderful way to begin each day. And thank you Dreama for creating a course where I can learn when I can fit it into my crazy busy life.

swell

It's such a fun word. And appropriate for a fun painting. I've been busy with a couple of commissioned paintings, plus working on this painting, which is a little bit larger than my norm. This one is 12"x12". I have also been busy preparing to submit to something creative that I would love to be a part of. Anything is worth a shot, right?!? This painting is available for purchase for $200, unframed.

wild abandon

I finished up a commissioned painting this morning with a little bit of time left over. So I painted a still life that I had set up in my studio. And I painted with wild abandon. It's a little along the vein of Lisa Daria and Angela Moulton. I really admire their work. I'm sure they don't really paint with wild abandon. They just make it look that way, and they make it look so easy. It's definitely not. Fun? Absolutely! This 6"x6" unframed painting is available for $75. Have a great day!

brushes

So much for the 30 day challenge for me! I am hopelessly behind now! I had a very fun "girls" getaway weekend with my buddies and didn't paint since last Wednesday. I did paint this morning, and it felt so great to get back into it. So great. Anyway, this is my painting from last Wednesday…This is 6"x6", $85 unframed.

carrot tops

This 10"x10" painting is bright and cheery. I really tried to keep my painting fun and loose. Always a challenge for me, but I think I succeeded on this fun one! Can't wait for fresh veggies from the garden. So glad it's finally springtime! This painting is $250 unframed (shipping included). I am still working on a payment button for my blog, so you will have to email me if you are interested in purchasing. kimsmith@tcgad.com. Thanks!

only better with age

Our favorite tools for doing what brings us joy. As we work with them every day, they get more tattered and torn, but somehow more perfect. They fit just right in our hands. If we take great care of them they get even better with age. With our spatters of paint becoming a permanent part of them. Just like the people we love the most. Beautiful, comfortable, just right...

pear reflections

These are the cutest little pears that I got at Central Market in downtown Lancaster. What a wonderful place to find painting inspiration! I especially love the reflections in the window. I am really, really trying to keep my brush strokes loose which was really challenging with the glass reflections! I was trying to pay close attention to my "edges." I would love to hear what you think...happy Friday!!

little blue bird

This is the same as a painting that I did in January and sold at my show. A few people wanted the same one so I painted it again this morning. It's interesting to let some time pass and then paint something again, to see what changed. How cool would it be to choose a painting, a small one, of course, and paint it once a month for a year to see your progression...I may try that. Here is the one I did today...then I will post the original one...let me know what you think...

patiently waiting

There really is nothing better than the unconditional love of our pets just patiently waiting for our love. They have no expectations of us. They are simply a safe place to land. What a wonderful thing to aspire to, just to be a safe place to land for those we love...

the dark side

This is a 5"x5" painting of two pears. I was trying out a different color palette. A quieter feel for me...but I think it has a peaceful energy...
