happy
I've painted this before. This time using what I have been learning in an online course from Dreama Tolle Perry about painting more loosely and using transparent colors on the base layer and allowing them to shine through. It's so inspiring to learn new things!

And on a side note, I just loved reading this note of inspiration for any artists reading my blog...it's a great article, just for today!

calm
I had a weekend with no time for painting. Every time I take a few days off I fear that I will forget everything I ever learned! We were at a swim meet at Penn State. It was fun and the weather was amazing for the middle of February. I did have a little bit of time this morning before work so I fit this little gem in to get myself back into the flow. At least while I was at the swim meet I had some time to read. A decadent treat!

Here's my reading material from this weekend, if you don't have time to paint, at least there's time for some good reading! I adore flow magazine and just started the book Thrive and am enjoying it very much.

French chair
This morning I painted this French chair from Dreama Tolle Perry's online class. My goal is to paint more loosely and more colorfully. She has such a magical style. Someday I would like to spend more time learning from other artists. Right now I just don't have the luxury of time to walk away from life to do something so selfish. But as I read everywhere, you can't wait forever to start doing what you love. That's why, a few years ago, I started painting every morning. And if I can fit it into my schedule, anyone can! I paint between 5:30 and 7 each morning (I do miss a day, now and then). Today this is what happened. What a wonderful way to begin each day. And thank you Dreama for creating a course where I can learn when I can fit it into my crazy busy life.

ambitious
I listened to a great podcast on The Jealous Curator this morning with Maryanne Moodie. She creates amazing weavings. Makes me want to start weaving! You can listen to her podcast here, and check out her work.
An ambitious morning...no time to chat...

thankful
This one was so easy and fun to paint. I did the same painting before and loved it that time, too. Maybe this would be a fun one to paint really large. I've been itching to paint some larger pieces. Definitely in the new year. Life is just too busy right now. It gets so overwhelming sometimes. But, of course, this past weekend made me thankful for all that I have. Very, very thankful. Hope you have a great start for your new week!

wild abandon
I finished up a commissioned painting this morning with a little bit of time left over. So I painted a still life that I had set up in my studio. And I painted with wild abandon. It's a little along the vein of Lisa Daria and Angela Moulton. I really admire their work. I'm sure they don't really paint with wild abandon. They just make it look that way, and they make it look so easy. It's definitely not. Fun? Absolutely!
This 6"x6" unframed painting is available for $75. Have a great day!

hope
I've been mia this past week. I finished up two commissioned pieces with several more still to complete. And, in general, life has been getting in the way of my painting. One of my constant lessons of not being in control, of just letting go, knowing that when I have time to get back in the groove I will appreciate it all the more. Spring is coming, and renewed hope of fun things on the horizon. Wishing you a wonderful, hopeful day!
This painting is 8"x8", and available, unframed, for $250.

everything's coming up roses
How wonderful to feel the sunshine again. I've just been too busy with life to fit in painting. My daughter loves to go into my studio and play school while I paint. The cats usually join us, too. The other day she mentioned that we hadn't done that for a long time. So off we went. Our paint/play time makes me so happy. Hoping to get back in the groove again! Happy Spring! This painting is available for $70, unframed, plus shipping.

white flower
This is a tiny 4"x4" painting of a white flower...white? Really? I really am battling with trying not to paint "tight" and to keep things loose...maybe I need to stop fighting it and try to let it happen naturally. I never seem to be able to let anything happen naturally. I think that is something that is so attractive to me about being an artist...that somehow I will transform myself into being a loose, carefree, laid back, go-with-the-flow person...all I can do is keep trying, right? Original available unframed $60.
