sunny side up

My daily small paintings give me an opportunity focus on learning different aspects of painting. This morning I focused on creating dimension. Sometimes it comes naturally, and sometimes I can't make it work. I feel like there's something about it that doesn't always click with me. Maybe it's the warm/cool thing, which I can't always clearly see. Maybe it's transitional values that challenge me. Not sure. But I think it worked in this one. And I also focused on putting down a brush stroke and leaving it, not moving the paint around on the canvas. Success!

Are you challenged with these same things? Or something different?

on the brighter side

Sometimes I feel like I'm drowning in too much to do. Okay maybe not sometimes, maybe almost all the time. Too much that I really just need to do, but don't really want to do. I am sure most people feel the same way. Instead of fighting it, I know it's best to just accept it and make the most of it. I try, I really do. So what's my point? Just this:
Happiness is a journey, not a destination. Work like you don't need money. Love like you've never been hurt, and dance (or paint) like no one's watching.
Not sure who to attribute this too, but definitely words to live by. Especially when you feel like you're drowning! This original 6"x6" oil painting is available, unframed, for $85, here.

joy

Something I'd like to share on my blog is my learning process, in art and in life. Not sure if you will find it interesting, but I thought I'd give it a try since I often stop and wonder what I should learn next in my journey. Right now I need to find ways of learning and growing that don't take a lot of time, and don't take me away from home, since life is super busy with my business and my family. I graduated from college with a degree in Communication Design. I've had a love of art all my life and actually took oil painting classes as a kid, but hated that we had to be quiet in class. I gave up oil painting until 30 years later. In all of those in between years I've had an advertising & design business for 27 years, and I still absolutely love fonts, color, design and layout. One thing that has afforded me in my painting is that I am able to create and maintain my own website, which has been one of the fun things I've been learning more and more about. Gotta get to work now, but in future posts I will let you know more about my learning journey. Maybe you'll have some good ideas for me! Thanks! giddy

Not much time to paint this weekend. My daughter had a swim meet most of the weekend. All worth it, but missed being able to paint. This did happen during the wee hours of Sunday morning though. I am learning about transparent colors from a course by Dreama Tolle Perry. It absolutely adds a magical feel, don't you think?

all in

Calm and focused. All in. I get overwhelmed so quickly when I wake up at 5am with goals that can't possibly be accomplished. I can only do my best. I have been following along with gigiyogini 21 day Affirmation Instagram Celebration. I started it too late to actually Instagram it, but I am following along each day and today is "I Am Confident." That was my thought during my morning run (something I am endlessly working on!) and to be "all in." Instead of trying to do 12 things pretty well in my day, I want to be all in for, oh, maybe three. Painting is definitely one of them. Enjoy!

This original oil painting is 8"x8" and available, unframed, for $160. You can purchase here.

summer happy

This warm weather is amazing. Winter seemed to last forever this year. I've been trying to run in the mornings now that I have found some running friends. Even my daughter Izzy has been joining us. It's been wonderful and I feel great but it's tricky fitting in my painting time. It will all work out though, as it always does. oopsie daisy

I tried for loose and free for this one, inspired by Carol Marine's wonderful book Daily Painting. The book is chock full of wonderful instruction and ideas…super easy to read and understand. And it's inspiring! I am so glad that I became a daily painter (maybe not daily, but at least as much as I can!). I started watching all the "famous" daily painters years ago, Carol Marine, Leslie Saeta, Karin Jurick, Lisa Daria, Duane Keiser, Dreama Tolle Perry, just to name a few…and decided, even though I really didn't have any time for it, I needed to give it a shot and do my best to make it a priority. So I carved out an hour of my day from 6-7 am to paint. Only thing I really had to give up was sleep! So even if you don't think you have a minute to spare, it's well worth the effort to make time to learn and grow, no matter what you enjoy doing. This original piece is 6"x6", painted on archival board, sold unframed for $85 here. Happy painting!

daisy too

This is a bit abstract for me. I started making a fun background and then painted the flower without changing the background. It's just fun. Happy. SOLD.

heavens to betsy

Heavens to Betsy. What a fun saying. I was explaining it to my 10-year-old while I was painting this flower. Enjoy! SOLD
